Neck
Liposuction
Liposuction of the neck is most often most beneficial for younger
patients who have developed a fatty area under the chin. Older
patients tend to develop excess skin either with or without excess
fat. Whichever the case may be, liposuction can treat the excessive
fat stored under the chin. The best candidates for liposuction
are healthy people within their ideal body weight who have exercised
and maintained healthy diets, but wish to remove localized pockets
of fatty tissue.
General
Technique
During this procedure, Dr. Weikel will make a small incision below
the chin through where he will insert the cannula to remove the
fat. For some, additional incisions are placed behind the earlobes
to allow for a crisscross pattern for suctioning evenly.
Postoperative
Pain associated with this procedure is quite minimal and is controlled
with pain medications. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent
infection. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least 3-4
weeks. Some temporary swelling and bruising of the face are to
be expected. Any scarring from the incisions will fade significantly
within a few weeks; however, they are quite inconspicuous because
of the location of the incision.
