Neck
Lift
(platysmaplasty)
A Necklift is designed to reduce the loose look of sagging skin
in the neck area and under the jaw line. This surgery addresses
the lower half of a face. Most often patients choose to have a
neck lift with the facelift procedure. A necklift will improve
loose, sagging skin. Any excessive fat of the neck is also removed
either directly or with the assistance of neck liposuction. This
procedure can improve the neck contour and give a sharper, more
defined appearance.
General
Technique
Dr.Weikel will make a small incision in the chin area, excess
fat will be removed and the platysma muscle will be tightened.
The platysma is often referred to as a 'waddle' by many. With
age, this muscle looses elasticity and creates undesirable neck
bands. A suture will hold the repositioned muscle in place which
will support the new neck line while the tissue heals.
Postoperative
A compression wrap will be required for the first few days after
the procedure. This aids the skin as it tightens to its new position.
Pain associated with this procedure is quite minimal and is controlled
with pain medications. The neck, where most of the tightening
occurs, will feel tight after surgery, but any discomfort usually
lasts only a few days. Some temporary swelling and bruising of
the face are to be expected. Physical activity is restricted for
two to three weeks.
