Cheek Augmentation
High cheek bones are often seen as youth and
beauty. Cheek implants permit us to augment or enhance what we may
have never had or what we may have lost. Some
patients desire to change the contour of the face to correct a sunken
cheek, whether from aging, weight loss, or genetics.
General Technique
For a Cheek Augmentation, the incision is made inside the mouth.
An individually sized implant is placed above the cheek bone, beneath
the muscles. Sutures are used to close the incision. There is no
scarring as all incisions are inside the mouth.
Postoperatively
Pain associated with this procedure is quite minimal and is controlled
with pain medications. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent
infection. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least 3-4
weeks. Some temporary swelling and bruising of the face are to be
expected. Keeping the head slightly elevated when reclining and
applying cold compresses should assist in reducing swelling.
