Botox
BOTOX® Injections
Used to help reduce the lines and furrows in the skin Botox®
is a purified form of Botulinim Toxin A. Dr. Weikel uses Botox
to temporarily eliminate wrinkles by relaxing the muscles within
specific areas of the face. Most commonly Botox is used for the
vertical lines in the forehead (frown creases) and round the eyes
(crow's feet), as an alternative to a forehead
lift.
General
Technique
Botox is injected directly into the frowning muscles or within
the wrinkle area. Typically within 1- 3 days, after which time
the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles and/or frown lines will
dramatically disappear. The skin will appear smoother and the
tired, or angry appearance will vanish. The injection takes about
10 minutes to perform and lasts, on average, anywhere from 3-4
months for the first few injections. After 2 or 3 injections,
Botox has been noted to have a longer-lasting effect (6-8 months).
Recovery
Although most people return to their normal activity immediately
after the injection, common side effects include bruising at the
injection site. This bruising can be concealed with makeup and
they will dissipate fairly quickly.
